In this article we are going to explore on how we can display a simple wakeup popup for Idle users ( lets say 1 minute for now).
We will be using Inactive Logout for WordPress plugin for enabling this functionality. So, go ahead and download the plugin and activate it on your site first to get started.
To describe this functionality – It is almost the same as how you get a popup after inactivity in 9gag.com after certain duration. The need for this might depend on your choice but in general here below are some of points to note.
User Engagement: Keeps users aware of their session status and encourages them to stay active.
Security: Warns users of impending logout due to inactivity, preventing unauthorized access.
User Experience: Maybe just trigger a popup for fun and let your users know that they have been snoozing off.
Now, that we know all the not so important things. Let’s make this functional in our WordPress site.
Like I said above that we will be using Inactive Logout for WordPress plugin for enabling this functionality. So, go ahead and download the plugin if you have not and activate it as well.
Now all you have to do is wait out 1 minute in our case to see the wakeup popup. This does not log out the user but just shows the popup. Below screenshot is an example of how it would look.
Additionally, you can customize the message of the popup yourself by browser through inactive logout settings page. If you look for an option called “Warning Message Content” – Changing contents to this setting will help you show your desired text to your users.
Inactive Logout plugin offers much more than just this popup. Below are some of the features outlined but not limited to these.
Get concurrent logins, browser close logout, and more by upgrading.
